Sapphire, the Belgian Warmblood mare that carried US Equestrian Team rider McLain Ward to two Olympic Gold Medals is sure to go down in show jumping history books as one of the greatest grand prix horses ever. This year, they are a strong candidate for a medal in the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games with a recent win in the $500,000 FTI Consulting Finale Gand Prix in Wellington, Florida. In 2009, the pair collected 23 US Equestrian Federation wins (including an unprecedented five Grand Prix victories in 21 days), and earnings of more than $1,000,000. Sapphire also scored a double clear in the Grand Prix of Aachen (Germany), one of the most prestigious classes in the world, and prevailed in a thrilling jump-off against 2008 individual Olympic Gold Medalist Eric Lamaze, in the CN $1 Million Grand Prix at the Spruce Meadows Masters in Calgary (Alberta, Canada).
