We’re coming up on the most wonderful time of the year! When carols play, sleigh bells ring, and lights twinkle, you have endless opportunities to create lifelong memories with your family. This holiday season, try one of these adorable holiday crafts that you’ll cherish for years to come.
1. Create a Handprint Snowman Ornament
This craft is cute, easy, and makes a wonderful keepsake! Here’s how:
1. Start with a plain glass ornament in any color you like.
2. Paint your child’s palms with white craft paint, making sure to cover the entire palm and fingers.
3. Have your child carefully wrap their fingers around the bottom of the ornament.
4. Let the ornament dry for a few hours or overnight.
5. Once dry, add faces and accessories to the snowmen on each fingerprint. For an extra personal touch, add your child’s name and the year on the ornament.
2. Countdown The Days With an Advent Garland
This is an old-school craft many of us made as children, so why not keep the tradition alive? This nostalgic craft is perfect for building excitement each day! Here’s how to make it:
1. Cut construction paper into strips, about 1-2 inches wide.
2. Form the first strip into a circle, then staple the ends together.
3. Loop the next strip through the first, then staple it, creating a chain.
4. Continue adding strips until you have a chain with as many loops as days left until Christmas.
5. Hang it somewhere accessible for your children to tear off a link each day!
3. Fork Painted Christmas Tree
Set up this craft and let your kids get creative!
1. Start with thick construction paper or cardstock.
2. Squirt green craft paint onto a paper plate (or let your child choose a fun color).
3. Have your child dip the bottom of a plastic fork into the paint, then drag it across the paper in the shape of a tree.
4. Once the paint is dry, your child can use markers, stickers, or glitter glue to decorate their unique tree!
4. Reindeer Headband
This craft makes for adorable photos and fun holiday memories!
1. Start with a thick strip of construction paper for the headband. Measure and cut to fit your child’s head.
2. Trace your child’s hands-on paper for antlers. If they’re old enough, they can cut them out.
3. Staple the hand “antlers” to the top of the headband.
4. Let your child decorate their reindeer headband with markers, paint, or even googly eyes and buttons.
5. Finally, staple the headband into a circle, and watch your little reindeer proudly wear their antlers!
5. Handprint Wreath
This is a great craft if you have multiple children or just one! It’s a lovely piece of decor to hang for years to come.
1. Prepare a blank white canvas. Lightly trace a circle for guidance, if desired.
2. Place craft paint on paper plates. You could do the same color for all, but we recommend using a different color or shade for each child so you can distinguish whose handprint was who’s in later years.
3. Have your children dip their hands in the paint, or paint directly onto their palms, then press their hands onto the canvas, following the circle, fingers facing towards the edges.
4. Once you have completed the circle of hands, allow time for the paint to dry before decorating your wreaths. Don’t forget to write names and the date on the canvas!
