The ancestors of today''s Frisians which originally came from the Netherlands bravely carried knights into battle, worked modestly in farming and were victorious participants in trotting races. Today, Frisians are used as coach and dressage horses, in the circus and in numerous other situations. Long hair on the legs, so-called feathers, a thick mane and a handsome tail are characteristics of this active horse. Today only black Friesians are bred, and this breed reaches a height of between 1.4 and 1.7 meters at the withers and is admired for its elegant trot.
