“I think the No. 1 thing is customer service,” owner Julie Everitt said. “When we hire new employees, we always try to train them to really take care of the customers first — take them by the hand and show them exactly what they’re looking for and
help them find the perfect present.”
With free gift-wrapping services available, Whistle Stop makes it effortless for shoppers to prepare for special occasions like birthdays. They will even go the extra mile by taking phone orders and picking out a gift over the phone, having it wrapped and ready to be picked up if you are running late.
“I really tried to train our employees to know what is new and hot, and help the customers find that perfect present for the child’s interest,” Everitt said. “So I think that helps us to stand out — that personal attention compared to going to the big stores.”
Whistle Stop is not just a toy store; it’s a community hub. With a charming play area, including a mini café and a train, children can unleash their imaginations.
“Our store is very much a hands-on toy store,” Everitt said. “So if it’s a hot, sunny day and they want to get the kids out and inside where it’s cool, they could bring the kids in here and let them just play and get
their energy out.”
Whistle Stop offers a curated selection of toys and brands, including popular items like Hot Wheels and LEGO, as well as high-quality products from manufacturers such as Hape. This ensures customers find unique and tailored toys, including educational options and hobby items for adults.
“My favorite thing about being an owner of a toy store is every day is so fun because you see things through the eyes of a child,” Everitt said. “There’s never a dull moment; it’s just a happy place to be.”
Whistle Stop loves to give back to its community by hosting free events. Don’t miss its upcoming Breyer Play-Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, featuring free pony rides, a petting farm, ice cream, and more.
