“Golf or Wabbit?”
In May 1974, Volkswagen presented the first-generation Golf as a modern front-wheel-drive, long-range replacement for the Volkswagen Beetle. Later Golf variations included the Golf GTI (introduced in June 1976 with a fuel-injected 1.6-litre engine capable of 180 km/h (110 mph) This model represents the GT1 version and most of us remember it as the Rabbit. A diesel powered Rabbit came out in 1976 in the “Carter Years” in the USA when we were going through the oil embargo, gas lines, and late 1970’s general malaise. Many of us thought back then that we would all be driving Diesel Rabbits, the best gas-mileage deal on the road. This model kit represents the Fuel Injected version.
