Volkswagens original passenger car was a marvel of ingenuity, simplicity and reliability. In the late 40s the company developed a van variant of the original car that took the light truck market by storm. The vehicle had a cargo capacity that nearly equaled its weight; all hauled by a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine. The T1 remained on the market until 1975 and its successor types are still on the market today.
