PT-109 was a PT boat (patrol torpedo boat) last commanded by Lieutenant (junior grade) John F. Kennedy, future United States President, in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His actions to save his surviving crew after the sinking of PT-109 made him a war hero. His PT-109 collision with a Japanese destroyer contributed to Kennedys long-term back problems and required months of hospitalization at Chelsea Naval Hospital. Kennedys postwar campaigns for elected office referred often to his service on the PT-109. Here is a great kit to assemble that is fun, relatively easy and educational. Kit comprises of 48 laser cut basswood parts for precision fitting and assembles in about an hour. Model is approximately 10 inches long when completed and contains detailed instructions. Wood Glue and paint needed for assembly, sold separately.
